RULES & REGULATIONS

Please read our rules and regulations thoroughly before attending or competing at an Industry Dance Challenge event! (This will always be the most up to date) Feel free to download a PDF of our rules and regulations below:

REGISTRATION:

  • Entries are based on a first-come, first served basis and will be limited based off the amount of performance time available at each event.

  • Entries MUST be entered through the registration system via industrydancechallenge.com or the  Industry Dance Challenge app.

  • Entries MUST be entered using the correct names, ages, categories, and competition levels of each dancer. This will NOT be changed after the event schedule is complete.

  • Deposits are required at the time of registering for an event. Please not each event has a deadline therefore early registration is encouraged.

  • ALL entries MUST be PAID IN FULL before deadline or they will not be processed into the final event schedule.

  • ALL entires must be paid by Credit Card, Debit Card, check, or cash. Cash payment will only be excepted by appointment only PRIOR to the event deadline.

  • Please note a 3.5% fee will be added onto all credit card payments.

  • NO CASH REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON.

  • No entries will compete unless they are properly registered PRIOR to the event. With the EXCEPTION of Title and/or special award entries are welcome enter at event ONLY if studio Owner/Director approves of it. 

  • If a studio drops out of an event within 2 weeks of the event , Industry Dance Challenge will NOT issue a refund.

  • Any entry containing a prop MUST be individually entered into registration system, when registering that specific routine.

  • Due to venue and event capacity the amount of solo entires per dancer may be limited. This will vary between different competition events.

  • We reserve the right to add any ADDITIONAL competition days/times when necessary. We ALSO reserve the right to move the competition location to a different venue or area when necessary.

  • By completing your registration for an Industry Dance Challenge event, all registered dancers are giving permission to our social media team to publish their photographs and/or videos for promotional purposes. This INCLUDES any and all social media platforms under Industry Dance Challenge, promotional videos, B-roll, websites, public promotion platforms, etc. In ADDITION to registering you release any and all owners, directors, officers, representatives, and employees of this competition from any and all claims of injuries or damages sustained during an event. 

SCHEDULING/PERFORMANCE TIMES:

  • There is NO fixed format for an event schedule. Each event schedule is made based on the breakdown of entries and ages.

  • Schedule is ALWAYS subject to change BEFORE and/or DURING the event. 

  • All entries must compete on the SAME DAY AND TIME they are scheduled for. You may request a changed time to compete, however it is not guaranteed. We understand circumstances arise and things are not planned for. 

  • IF approved to compete on a different day of an event, the entry will most likely be competing for ADJUDICATION ONLY and may not be eligible for overalls. This will be subject to change depending on event capacity. 

  • Any changes in event days/times are at the discretion of Director, and are determined by the time and capacity allowance of the event and venue.

  • Each entry is given an assigned number. This is used for identification and reference purposes. Entries are expected to perform in numerical order unless a change is made to the schedule granting the permission of competing out of order. 

  • The backstage manager of the event has full authority to ask an entry to perform out of order if there are any unforeseen circumstances and/or other delays. Please be prepared to compete whenever we call your number, even if it is out of order and/or earlier than anticipated. 

  • UNAUTHORIZED delay in performances may result in point deduction and/or disqualification.

  • Performers MUST be checked in with BACKSTAGE MANAGER at least 15-20 entries before they are anticipated to compete. Failure to do so may result in point reduction and/or disqualification.

  • Please let BACKSTAGE MANAGER know if you are experiencing delays in costume changes or missing dancers so they can prepare for delays in schedule. If BACKSTAGE MANAGER is not notified of any problem, and you are not ready to compete in your designated order this can result in disqualification. 

  • Keep in close contact and communication with BACKSTAGE MANAGER throughout the entire event with any updates or delays you may have. This will make it easier for both your studio and our competition to have the event run smoothly.

AGE DIVISIONS:

  • AGES ARE BASED ON THE DANCERS AGE ON JANUARY 1ST OF THE YEAR COMPETING

  • All performers are required to have proof of age on hand at event. Failure to provide valid proof when asked, may result disqualification and/or age change of routine.

  • When averaged the age will round up to the nearest whole number for duo, trio, small group, large group, line, and production. 

 

    MINI - Age Limit (5 years and under)

 

    PETITE - Age Limit (6-9 years)

 

    JUNIOR - Age Limit (10-12 years)

 

    TEEN - Age Limit (13-15 years)

 

    SENIOR - Age Limit (16-19 years)

 

    ADULT - Age Limit (20 years and over)

DIVISIONS/TIME LIMITS:

SOLO:

  • Performer Limit: (1)

  • Time Limit: 2:45 minutes

  • Solos MUST compete in the competition level in which dancer is registered originally by studio. Performance division CANNOT change due to category or age. 

  • Soloists are limited to a MAXIMUM of (4) solo entires per event. They may NOT compete against themselves in the same category. They may compete in 4 SEPARATE performance categories. 

  • Solo entries may be LIMITED due to the capacity and time allowance of event. 

 

DUO/TRIO

  • Performer Limit: (2-3)

  • Time Limit: 3:00 minutes

  • NO duo/trio may compete against themselves in the same performance category with the SAME performers in each. 

  • Each performer’s age and performance division will be averaged.

 

SMALL GROUP

  • Performer Limit: (4-9)

  • Time Limit: 3:00 minutes

  • Each performer’s age and performance division will be averaged.

 

LARGE GROUP

  • Performer Limit: (10-15)

  • Time Limit: 3:00 minutes

  • Each performer’s age and performance division will be averaged.

 

LINE

  • Performer Limit: (16-20)

  • Time Limit: 4:00 minutes

  • Each performer’s age and performance division will be averaged.

 

PRODUCTION

  • Performer Limit: (21 or more)

  • Time Limit: 6:00 minutes

  • Each performer’s age and performance division will be averaged.

 

EXTENDED TIMES

  • Any and all entires are eligible to purchase extended times. This will be put into your grand total of registrations. 

  • If entry goes beyond time limit without payment of extended time there will be a major point reduction and/or disqualification

COMPETITION LEVELS:

  • Industry Dance Challenge believes that a dance competition should encourage dancers in a positive direction with an advanced level of scoring. We have (3) competition levels that dancers can be classified as. This separates experienced competitive dancers from dancers who are just starting out in the competition world and are striving to achieve their goals.

  • Studios are required to assign and enter EACH of their dancers into the CORRECT competition level, this CANNOT be changed after registration is complete.

  • Our judges reserve the right to move a routine or dancer into a different competition level if they feel the routine or dancer was not entered in correctly. 

  • If a routine or dancer is bumped up/down during an event, they must stay in that competition level for the remainder of the event.

  • These competition levels are as follows:

 

ROOKIE

  • This competition level is for dancers who are starting out.. These dancers are on the rise to become rookie level dancers and have the basic skills. 

  • These dancers will be scored accordingly and will be eligible for both adjudication and overall awards.

  • Prodigy level dancers will ALSO be eligible for judges awards, choreography awards, etc.

 

PRODIGY

 

  • This competition level is for dancers who are starting out and have been competing for under 3 years. These dancers are on the rise to become extremely competitive dancers and have the basic skills and proper training/terminology down. 

  • These dancers will be scored accordingly and will be eligible for both adjudication and overall awards.

  • Prodigy level dancers will ALSO be eligible for judges awards, choreography awards, etc.

 

COMPETITIVE

 

  • This competition level is for dancers who are competitive dancers who perform and train at a technical level. These dancers need over 3 years of competitive experience to compete as an advanced level dancer. 

  • These dancers will be scored accordingly and will be eligible for both adjudication and overall awards.

  • Competitive level dancers will ALSO be eligible for judges awards , choreography awards, scholarships, cash prizes, etc.

MUSIC:

  • ALL music should be uploaded and submitted through our registration system. This MUST be done AT LEAST 14 days before the start of the event. 

  • Every entry must provide their own music with the proper speed/tempo uploaded.

  • PLEASE HAVE A BACKUP OF ALL ENTRY MUSIC! We except iPhone, flash drives, and laptops as a form of backup. They MUST have each routine numbered and labeled correctly within its own SEPARATE playlists. 

  • ALL Industry Dance Challenge events reserve the right to deduct points and stop any music that contains profanity, derogatory language, slurs, inappropriate sayings, etc. AGE APPROPRIATE.

PROPS:

  • All routines will be given a 2:00 minute grace period to set up and break down any props.

  • Props that take a longer set up and break down time can register for extended time.

  • Props should be loaded in and out of venue the day they are being used.

  • Storing props in stage wings or doorways is NOT PERMITTED.

  • All props MUST be labeled with studio name for identification purposes.

  • Liquids, paints, chalks, powders, glitters, etc. are allowed but CANNOT come in contact with any property of Industry Dance Challenge. This includes floor, backdrop, trussing, curtains, lighting, etc. 

  • The use of fog machines, explosives, fire/pyrotechnics, live animals, knives, guns, or any props that are considered dangerous or a hazard are STRICTLY PROHIBITED. 

  • Any items left on stage after the use of prop must be cleaned up by the studio immediately and efficiently after the routine is finished performing. Failure to do so may result in point deduction or disqualification. 

  • When registering your routine with a prop it is MANDATORY you include prop and description during registration process. 

  • At the event it is MANDATORY to tell the BACKSTAGE MANAGER you HAVE a prop, will be USING prop, WHEN the prop comes onto stage, WHERE it is placed on stage and WHAT routine it is being used for. 

  • Special stage or lighting changes will NOT be accepted or changed by Industry Dance Challenge for any and all performances.

BACKSTAGE AREA:

  • After checking into an Industry Dance Challenge event it is IMPORTANT to introduce yourself to the BACKSTAGE MANAGER of the event. 

  • Keep open COMMUNICATION throughout the ENTIRE event with the BACKSTAGE MANAGER to ensure a smooth experience with us! 

  • Teachers or Studio Directors should check-in performers and routines along with any props with the BACKSTAGE MANAGER at the appropriate time before competing. 

  • Backstage areas and wings MUST remain clear of dancers, props, teachers, and parents if you are not waiting to perform in at least 5 numbers. 

  • When waiting backstage all participants MUST remain QUIET and be RESPECTFUL to the performers on stage and the audience. 

GENERAL RULES:

  • PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED. This is to protect the copyrights of teachers and choreographers. And to protect your kids and dancers from exploitation. Violating this will result in removal from competition. This can result in point deductions and disqualification of YOUR studio

  • NO DRUG USE OF ANY KIND IN OR AROUND VENUE. This includes but is not limited to tobacco, alcohol, smoking of any kind, hard drugs, vape, marijuana, etc. 

  • JUDGING SCORES ARE FINAL

  • INDUSTRY DANCE CHALLENGE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR STOLEN PROPS, ITEMS, COSTUMES, ETC. 

  • Each venue has a different set of food and drink policies that is subject to change with every event and location. Industry Dance Challenge will ENFORCE the rules of each venue and location.
